Do Your Work, Then Step Back

Part 1 of a 5 part series on the path to serenity. Fill your bowl to the brim And it will spill. Keep sharpening your knife And it will blunt. Chase after money and security And your heart will never unclench. Care about people’s approval And you will be their prisoner. Do your work, then step back The only path to serenity. ~ From Tao Te Ching as translated by Stephen Mitchell We will each find ourselves in one or more of the lines above. Some will be past experiences. Some will be current. Rejoice on those past. Reflect on those current. Now, take a deep breath in. On your slow exhale, step back, let go, and invite the current to become the new past. Do your work, then step back. The only path to serenity.
